I got an Air Port card for my 12" PowerBook for Christmas. With a new baby and all, today's (1/23) the first day I got to try it out. My #1 reason for wanting one is that I have dialup at home and going to a t-mobile HotSpot would be useful when "cleaning up" my iDisk. I've been a .Mac user since it was iTools and have a lot of junk on my iDisk.

Well, here I am, connected at blazing speed. The Internet is incredible at this speed. Still, my iDisk is unusable. Even opening folders or deleting folders/files takes minutes. I thought it was a dialup issue when it was this way at home... But I guess not.

Is my iDisk configured wrong or corrupt? I run two decent-sized websites from my iDisk and they work fine. Contribute connects to it fine to upload pages & what-not. It's just connecting to it through the Finder that sucks.

Any help/tips/tricks?

Dunno. It isn't especially fast here either. It's like if I was on dial up. Also on airport.

iDisk is definitely slow. But I can navigate with very little lag. It's just copying files to/from the iDisk that is painfully slow. I would say something is up on your end if it takes minutes to open a directory. (only saying this because it doesn't take minutes on mine)

try connecting to iDisk by going to your Connect to Server via the Finder and typing: http://idisk.mac.com/yourusername. This should allow you to mount your iDisk within the Finder, just as you can any other WebDAV access point.

Do you find it faster to access/upload/download this way?

FWIW, I usually find the web DAV client in Adobe GoLive is a fair amount faster and more reliable than the Finder, though it's no speed-demon either, with iDisk. Still, if you've got GoLive, give it a try and see if it's not a good bit smoother.

If you are using Panther, then another option you can try is to create a local copy of your iDisk and have it sync with the server instead...not sure if that will help your situation or not, but worth a shot!

FWIW, I've thought iDisk under Panther is great...FAR better than any other version of the OS (even OS 9)...

Goliath was great and fast under 10.2, but I think it's broken under 10.3

Doesn't bother me actually now that I don't use .mac anymore - it beats me why they don't just let you use FTP.

You can't eat all those hamburgers, you hear me you ridiculous man?

Thanks for all the info. Will have to try that on my next trip to Borders. At $.10/minute ($6/hour), it's not something I'll be doing every day.

.Mac has been unusually slow the last few days but seems to have returned to it usual speed, which for me is good. iDisk has never been fast.

There are a whole bunch of threads on the Apple support site about iDisk problems that have started recently. It seems to only be affecting a small group of people.

My iDisk has been unuseable for about a week now. I first noticed when a sync failed after I put a GarageBand creation in the iDisk Music folder. After I turned off syncing, the Finder hangs when I try to access the iDisk. I am able to access other Webdav servers with no problem, so the problem is unique to .Mac.
