I am trying to copy all of my songs from my iPod to an external HD. I have two macs with different songs on them and I would like them in one place....

Using the terminal to 'cp -R *' all of the F## folders is not working. It will start to copy and then just hang there.

Now and I am trying to copy from the finder. It will copy about 250MB (out of 1000MB) and then sit there.

I tried to copy from my iPod to my internal HD and it had the same effect.

Repair the disk of your ipod with disk utility.

Running Disk Utility tells me that the iPod has no problems. Obviously it does becuase it will not copy on either of my computers.

I will try to reinstall the ipod software next

I had problems with very slow file copying to my iPod as well. When I unplugged my iSight videocam, the problem went away. Worth a try?

Thanks for the tip. It's definitely more serious for me. My iPod needs to be reformatted to work right. It has run the disk check on itself twice (passed both times) but it still won't work right.

It also will refuse to unmount which will cause iTunes and the Finder to hang. Force quitting will not work. If I physically pull the iPod out of the dock everything will go back to normal. This is bad for the iPod though, and I am already on thin ice with the thing.

If I end up taking a hammer to it (I am very close!) I will take pics for you all.

In the time it took me to write this message iPodRip was able to move 1 song from the pod to my HD. Oh wait, now it has moved 2. Normally it would be at about 200.
