I was updating my address book and all the sudden the screen goes black. After that , there seems to be a serious of codes and stuff scrolling up. I'm not a technical person, so I have no idea what it's doing. I can't do anything at all.

Than the fan got really loud and the CD drive seems to be spinning pretty fast.

Does anyone had this happened to them?

What was the cause of this.?

I updated to panthern and it caused major problem so i went back to 10.2.7 OS.

Just got the G5 on friday january 23. so I'm just exploring how to use the computer.

Thanks

Sounds like a Kernel Panic. That's a bad thing to have happen. I haven't heard of any Address Book problems causing KPs, it may be something else.

This sounds like an old style kernel panic, since 10.2 you should not see the white text errors on black thing going on but instead a box telling you to restart your computer in a handful of different languages.

Kernel panics are almost always caused by one of two things:
(1) Hardware problem
Installed new RAM lately? Or any other new hardware?
Boot your Mac from the Hardware Test CD that it came with, and run the tests.

(2) Buggy driver
Have you installed a driver for new hardware, like a scanner or something?

I had some ram installed when I got the G5. MacMall did the work. I also installed some new drivers for my printers and couple other things. I will try to do a hardware test and see.

Thanks

Just to let you know. I have a new Dual G5 1.8 and had the black screen kernal panic since the very first time of starting up the machine.

After 2 service calls, and a couple weeks of irritation... it was the logic board that needed to be replaced. If you want more details about my issues.. just let me know.
