I have a Mac G3. OS 10.2.8 and 9.2.2 are both installed within the same partition of my hard drive and I have kept current with all updates. While in OS 10.2.8, I switched startup disk to 9.2.2, but my computer won't restart.

It gets past the smiling Mac icon to the welcome page with a black and white pizza spinning in the upper left corner. Process status bar gets to about 20% when the pizza turns to a bomb. No extensions appear at the bottom of my screen.

I attempted to boot from a CD with the C key held down, but nothing happens. Restarting with Control-Option-Shift-Delete keys held down will allow start-up from the CD, but it does the exact same thing as described above. I know it is booting from the CD because the CD graphics appear in the background.

I am able to boot from a Disk Warrior CD by holding down the C key. Disk Warrior reports finding critical errors, but says it was able to rebuild directory successfully. I am also able to boot from a SystemWorks CD by holding down the C key. Norton reports finding major and minor problems, but says it was able to fix all of them.

I tried booting back into OSX using my original OS10 CD and my OS Jaguar CD. Holding down the C key does nothing. Holding down the Control-Option-Shift-Delete key gets me to the smiling Mac, which disappears in one second. Next I hear the startup chime, which gets me back to the smiling Mac, which again disappears in one second. Etc. Etc.

I'm stumped.

Any help will be much appreciated.

holding down the 'X' key will boot you back into your os x install. another thing to try if you want to give your os 9 system another go is to hold the <shift> key (extensions off) as soon as you see the "happy mac" and see if it boots then. also - if you are in 10.2.x does classic launch/load properly?
