I am trying out OmniWeb right now, and it is driving me nuts that the "Back" keyboard shortcut is cmd-leftarrow and the Finder uses cmd-leftbracket (Safari uses either one).

So, I thought this should be the perfect job for the new "Keyboard Shortcuts" feature in Panther. First I tried adding the "cmd-bracket" to OmniWeb, but OmniWeb has no menu item for back, and for some reason the prefpane won't let me enter a cmd-leftbracket.

Then, I tried adding cmd-leftarrow to the Finder. Finder does have a menu entry for Back, so I made a new shortcut:

Application: Finder
Menu Title: Back
Keyboard shortcut: cmd-leftarrow (not actually spelled out, obviously.)

Unfortunately, the Finder seems to be just ignoring this new keyboard shortcut.

Any ideas?

Omni does - it's Browser > Navigate > Go to previous page.

Amorya
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

OK, this is getting weird. I still can't make a keyboard shortcut for cmd-bracket, as it just won't let me type it in the field. So, I tried to add it to the Finder again, and this time reboot as I noticed it didn't start working in OmniWeb until I restarted the application.

Has anyone gotten Keyboard Shortcuts to work with the Finder? This is what I am getting now:

Notice the weird accented characters in the Go menu where the hotkeys are supposed to be.

OK, well I kind of worked around this by modifying the Menus.nib of the Finder. Kinda sucks though as now I will have to redo this every time Apple puts out an upgrade that changes the Finder.

Still open to suggestions on a better fix. Hopefully Omni will support both cmd-bracket and cmd-arrow like Safari does in 5.0.
