Thought this was cool: Purcahsed an older eMac last night with CDRW only. Wanted to put Garageband and iDVD on it but was stumped by the "dvd drive requirement". But here is how I worked around it: Put iLife Install dvd in my g4 imac and duplicated. Copied the duplicated folder to my external firewire harddrive. Attached the harddrive to the eMac, launched the installer and voila I was making a song. Hope it helps.

Note also that while this tip is no doubt helpful, it's old news -- it's been discussed here and elsewhere from within about 10 minutes of people getting a hold of iLife '04.
