The update ran fine, I have not noticed anything weird after booting up. I ran it on a PowerBook G4 and on a PowerMac Dual G4 1.25.

This is the thing that Think Secret talked about last weekend. Pretty accurate.

Does anyone know if this update will require one to re-install the slow startup "hack"?

Despite the updates to WebCore, Safari still doesn't work correctly with Novell's GroupWise web access system.

Yes, I've left bug reports and feedback with Apple. Works fine on Gecko-based browsers.

I am guessing there was a mess-a files, wanted to make the post smaller, or it exceded the post size limit?

The maximum permitted length is 10000 characters.

I've been able to answer my own question so for anyone else who wants to know....

The update left my hack in place. For reference, I havve a symbolic link to the BootCacheControl file. I know others put a copy of that file in /usr/sbin. One would presume that the copy is still correct because the actual BootCacheControl file still has a 9/24/2003 date on it.

Gaaa.. I ran the update on my Dual 2ghz G5. Installed fine, rebooted, then Software Update popped up and wanted to run the update again. So I let it. Next reboot didn't automatically check. I manually checked and it still wants to install the update. I repaired permissions, but that didn't help.

Help?

Have you checked your /Library/Receipts folder? Is there a .pkg from this update? There should be.

Anyone else notice that Apple published "Security Update 2004-01-26" for:
  • 10.3.2 Client
  • 10.3.2 Server
  • 10.2.8 Client
  • 10.2.8 Server
  • 10.1.5 Client and Server

Pretty impressive effort -- it must have been an important security issue. Hopefully this means that Apple will be releasing security updates covering 10.2 and 10.3 simultaneously. At any rate, releasing an update like this for "last year's" OS helps improve Apple's corporate stance (at least at my company).

I did delete the link prior to updating the system and the boot speed is still the same. The update is supposed to contain a fix for system init so maybe this makes the slow boot fix obsolete.

Well, I ran the update on another iBook and that one behaved. Later today, I checked the iBook 800 and it was fine. The iMac and the G5 both still want to install the update again.

I installed it on my 17inch Powerbook last night, so far, no problems found and everything is running nicely.

All is right with the world now. All machines are acting normally, the update is not showing anymore. I'll chalk it up to a glitch in Apple's servers.
