After installing the security update my Activity monitor will not launch, it just bounces once and then nothing

Often when that sort of thing happens there will be some sort of error message written to the console. Check /Applications/Utilities/Console and see what it says.

I couldn't find anything in the system log, but repairing disk permissions fixed it, i didn't think repairing disk permissions did crap, I am a believer now
