PowerBook running X.3.2 and a Linksys wireless G router.

Here's the scenario: I have SSID broadcast off on the router and WEP on. After configuring once, my PowerBook automatically attaches to the network when I get home. At work, it automatically attaches to the work network which i also only had to set up once.

This is all great, but an annoying thing just happened: at home, I noticed a new wireless connection in my air port menu bar item. I thought I would try to connect and did so. But after doing that, my home connection dissapeared from the list of available connections. Now I know the SSID is off but shouldn't my PowerBook remember the connection, especially seeing as it automatically connects to it every time I get home? So to get back to my own connection, I had to select "Other" then re-enter the SSID and WEP key (fortunately I have another computer attached by wire so I could look up the router wep key from there.)

Now, am I missing something, or should OSX not store this network connection in a keychain or something like it stores all other machine configs?

Thanks for listening to the babble.

I'm having the same thing happen and I can't figure it out either. I've tried using Keychain and setting up networking by location. No dice.

Did you try to use "Join specific Network" in Airport System Preferences?
(make sure you have the lastest Airport 3.3.1 update installed, I know this
was broken with 3.3, and not sure it has been fixed).
You may need to define one Location to use automatic, and the other
one to Join a specific Network when you are home.
