Can you put an alias in the menu bar?

I remember reading somewhere that you could put an alias of another machine/hard drive in the menu bar.
I haven't found a way to do this, does anyone know of one? It would be very handy.
Cheers,
J.

In the menubar? Never heard of that, I have heard of creating an alias in the Dock though.

It would need to be a "menu-let" (.menu) file wouldn't it? If so, not sure how you turn an alias into a menu-let item...

In Jaguar and earlier, you could put an alias into your Favorites folder, which would then appear under the Go menu.

Ok, must have been having a moment of imagination. Have to use a regular alias in the dock.
Thanks for letting me know.

That sounds like a trick from the OS9 days, where you could put an alias of a drive in the Apple Menu in order to get quick access to everything. Not quite the menubar, but close.
Nowadays, the closest thing to that is putting an alias in the Dock. You could also try using FruitMenu; that would allow you to emulate the older trick.

There is a pice of Shareware called AliasMenu that does just that:
AliasMenu
There's also "Another Launcher" which is donationware, that does this and a lot more:
Another Launcher
Finally, there's also the new commercail software called "YouControl" that does menus and a bunch of other module based stuff:
You Control
