This is probably a no-brainer, but I am fairly new to macs and just want to make sure! I noticed an Airport update on Software Update that mentions the airport extreme card and the base station. I am using a 12" PB with airport extreme, but use a netgear router rather than an airport base station. Will the update play havoc with the base station part of the update? or when finished downloading and getting ready to install, will there be an option to not update the base? Thanks for any help - just don't want to mess anything up, but do like to keep the updates current.

The update will not affect your router, nor will you be forced to install a firmware upgrade on anything other than Apple's Airport Base Station, and even there, it's up to you to do so.

The basestation part of the update will not do anything unless you have a basestation, so don't worry. There is no chance of a non-Apple device being damaged by updated Apple software. That doesn't mean you can't have problems in general from this update, but the issue you brought up is really not an issue at all.

It will only ask to update the apple airport base-stations you're connected to. Installing it wont break anything

Thanks everyone! Thought that would be the answer, but feel so much better about doing the update now! These forums are great! Have helped this switcher more than I can say! Keep up the good work!

Yup, this forum taught me a lot when I first switched almost a year ago. Learned a lot here. Now I felt like I've been using Macs all my life. Haven't touched a windows based system since I switched, starting to forget about those dark dark days, which is a good thing.
