recently when i return to work in the mornings, after logging out the night before, i find that my login screen has root's desktop behind it. its totally intereactive, i can launch apps as root, etc.
yup, thats a root shell without any authentication. glad its at least behind a locked door.

dont believe me? check it out.

Wow, that's wild. Are you just logging out or restarting and seeing this?

figured out that it was Toast's "DejaVu" that was doing the trick. i had it to backup at 3am (while i was gone).
i seem to remember that when i set that up, i was root.

not a very good setup. i wonder if anyone else can verify this behavior? might be worth telling Toast about.
