When I see something in the beginner *nix literature I read or come across something unfamiliar in my perusals of the command line, I usually just type "whatis _" and I'm given a terse explanation of whatever the thing is. Then I man it if it looks promising.
This hasn't worked since i changed over to Panther. I did a clean install on my 15Al, and there were no problems in the install, as far as I know. I have a stock 15Al 1 GHz with an extra 512 MB of RAM.
When I try to whatis something, I get this:
$ whatis ssh
whatis: no whatis databases in /usr/share/man
Did the Installer skip this? Are the databases somewhere else on my hard drive so that I can copy or symlink them over? Should I stop worrying like a ninny and just accept that I can never <sob> use whatis again?
