I was re-arranging things in panther's sidebar in the finder pane, I accidentally dragged off the link to the root of my HD ( mac hd). Now it wont let me drag it back on to the sidebar? WTF, has anyone encountered this and if so, what am I doing wrong?

and BTW the "mac hd" still appears in the open/save dialogue boxe's sidebar.

It's not terribly intuitive not to be able to drag it on there, is it?

yeah, I guess I figured I could drag it off, I should be able to drag it on. But enough with my excuses, mods please get rid of this thread.

If you click the Network, iDisk, or Applications icons in the sidebar and then type cmd-up arrow (or pick Go->Enclosing Folder), you can drag the hard drive back to the sidebar.

Why? Others may run into the same problem you did. Keeping this thread makes it possible for others to do a search on this problem. Wait a week or so, the thread will disappear to the next screen, unless someone resurrects it.

I'm actually surprised that you couldn't just drag the hard drive icon back on to the sidebar. I thought I saw Steve do that during the keynote when he was demonstrating it.

Maybe I'm wrong.

you can drag it on there, you just have to have the ROOT of the column view be something far enough back to see the harddrive in the finder window.

dragging from the desktop will no put the HD in the sidebar. but dragging from the window will.

Actually, I tried that and it would not work . Only if "computer"(the little imac icon) is there can you do that. If the space above the little line that seperates folders from volumes is blank, you cannot drag items into it. I had neither.( I don't even have my volumes show up on the desktop...like it cleeeeen)

I might not understand it, but dragging it off and then on again (from the desktop) works for me, just as I would have expected. (Running OS 10.3.2).

I also dragged the Macintosh HD from my desktop into the sidebar, stayed there as expected. I also removed it and could still drag it back. You have to drag it to the top half of the sidebar, not the bottom half ofcourse.
