Hi all -

I have an odd issue where if I select multiple files on the desktop, and then try to drag them into a folder or onto an app icon in the dock, the finder shuts down (desktop area goes blank) and then everything reappears again. Over and over and over. Any one have an idea what's up?

i've noticed it too, but only with files with incomplete custom icons on the desktop (icons missing their bottom half, for example). one workaround is to open a new finder window in list mode and select them from there.

Good...!!! It's not just me...

I was flippin' out... wondering why my Finder kept restarting whilst I was cleaning off my desktop.

I frequently let my desktop get cluttered w/ recent work and stuff I need handy... and about every month or two, I clear it all away by deleting and/or organizing it all away into other directories.

I was doing just that this a.m. and was alarmed at how often the Finder was restarting. I could drag SINGLE files into folders, but if I dragged MULTIPLE files anywhere... *poof* - the finder was gone & relaunching.

Has this been hashed & rehashed a lot here...? if so, I musta missed it. This seems like a pretty big 'bug' to me.

Does it help if you trash the Finder prefs?

It happens when you have icons on the desktop set to "Show Preview". Then you try and drag.

It ALSO happens when you have a folder opened and at the front and you use an app that edits images and change the image. Then when you switch to the Finder and it updates the folder... CRASH! It really PISSES me off.

This is the WORST, MOST BUGGY Finder yet. And Apple should be ashamed of themselves for calling it the best yet. They couldn't give a crap. We'll have to wait until 10.4 and even then it's not promised to be fixed! It didn't do this in 10.3!
