Hi all.

I have connected my g4 powerbook, which runs OSX , to a G3 ( which runs on OS 9.2) as in Target Disk Mode.

I would like to run Final Cut Pro using OS X on the G3, if possible. I thought maybe I could change the startup disk on the G3 to my computer's harddisk, and so the G3 would startup in OS X.

Is this crazy? Possible? What are issues with changing a computers startup disk temporarily, to a hard disk that is connected via firewire?

I appreciate any comments.

Thanks.

Slidell.
ps I know you may wonder why I dont just use the G4, and its because I need the memory space on the G3, and I cant put the g3 into target Disk Mode.

I've never booted off of a target disk mode disk but it probably works. You'll only get G3 speed out of it though, and I'm not sure you'll be pleased with FCP on a G3.

Do you just want a bigger screen? Why not just hook the monitor up to the PB?

Good luck

ps sorry I didn't read your ps. I'm surprised you cant do TGM on the G3... That would be the better solution.

Not crazy. No issues. This is the kind of thing that Target Disk Mode was designed for.

Pity the G3 won't boot into TDM, though.

If you say you need the "memory space", does that mean the hard drive in the G4 is full? You COULD just use TDM to copy stuff from the G4's hard drive to the G3 and then run FCP directly on the G4, no? That would be the best solution, in my opinion.
