I've been looking between Cocktail and Macaroni for system upkeep on my Powerbook. I've more or less decided on Macaroni for it's scheduler and ability to add new maintenance jobs.

What else, other than the daily, weekly, monthly, and permission fixes, should I consider adding to keep my system in top shape? I'd like to create a series of perl scripts that can be incoporated into Macaroni for things availabe in Cocktail but not Macaroni. Any suggestions on things to add?
Just my $.02 :-)

I don't know about you, but I'm guessing Mac Pilot would work well.

The developer of Macaroni told me that he would be incorporating cache clearing capability in a future release. It hasn't happened yet .. until then I occasionally run this for system maintenance ..

Cache Out X

Cache Out X clears out the cache entries on your machine, helping you recover valuable disk space on your machine. Items removed include the caches in System, Users, and Library, along with the Internet Explorer download cache. Optionally clears the IE's history cache as well.

I'll have to look into these programs, but I'm trying to find out what the command line text is that is required to do things like clearing the various cache. That's what makes Macaroni so great. I can run any thing from the command line. I'd like to gather a list of all these various tasks that different applications do and compile them all into one application....

I like Macaroni. I have a task that checks the S.M.A.R.T. status of my hard drive once daily and reports if it's anything other than normal.
