Why do so many people erase their disk before installing?

On the third disk are printer drivers and additional localizations and since you chose not to install them you don't miss them.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Also, the X11 stuff is on the third disk.

<shameless plug>You can find out exactly what's on the disk by using Pacifist to open the .mpkg on the disk.</shameless plug>

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

i erased before installing just to do a general spring clean and get rid of the general crap that seems to build up on my machine. don't really need to do it but its nice to get that squeaky clean feeling

I always erase and fresh install too. It really is nice to have a fresh start every so often, and yes, one does feel that things build up and slow the system down.

And as for the free t-shirt, I got one when I bought Panther - I think it was a special thing for the first day of release. And I wear it with pride !

On one machine I installed it over jaguar and it messed up a lot. It probably was because it was a "real life" machine with all kind of tinkering stuff on it, not a clean jaguar partition.
On the other machine I did an erase & clean install, and yes, this one is working much better without all the clutter coillected over time.

Back to the topic: why not just insert the 3rd CD and see what's on it? Can't be that difficult I would say...
