Like many musicians, I've been waiting for the release of the Yamaha 01X, a multi-channel audio interface/controller that communicates with the computer via mLAN.

mLAN is a new multi-channel midi and audio network protocol, of which Apple was one of the chief proponents. It allows many channels of audio and MIDI data to be sent via FireWire. Great idea and something the industry has been waiting for a long time.

How ironic then that the 01X works with Windows XP and Yamaha's drivers for Mac OS 9 but not with the 'built-in' support of Mac OS X.

Yamaha expect the problems to be fixed in a 'forthcoming update from Apple'.

I'm about to blow £2000+ ($3500) on a couple of 01X's - and I really hope that OS X support isn't far away - maybe in 10.3.3.

Anyone know?

Supposedly one of the o1x salesmen from the UK who is currently working with a beta of the aforementioned OSX system update to "re" enable the mlan protocol within Panther, says it's coming with 10.3.3! He was mentioning on www.o1xray.com that the beta update that he was playing with @ Namm just a few weeks ago was rock solid and had a latencey of .2ms! I can't wait! The o1x with Logic Pro (check my site out for the deets...) is going to rock!

The new plugins look incredible.

Well that's good news.

Maybe I can risk the pulled 10.3.3 update - if I can find it . . . :-)

As a side issue. I'm not a Logic user, and I'll repeat for the nth time that I think Emagic are undermining the whole AU concept by continuing to release only non-AU (Logic-native) versions of their pro plug-ins.

It was never released, so neither was it ever pulled. Only beta/test versions were on Apples developer site for a while.
I'm sure it will be officially released soon enough.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

CoreAudio updates often ship with Quicktime, so you maybe won't need 10.3.3. For example, Quicktime 6.4 brought the same CoreAudio components to 10.2 that 10.3 shipped with.

Stink different.
