Hi all,

Here on campus we have a dual 1 Ghz xServe, and a small network of about 60 Macs. Instead of setting the clock on each and individual Macintosh, is it possible to set up the xServe as a network time server? Would be handy.

Thanks,
-Rob

Sure, but why not set the time server on the machine to the built-in Apple time servers?

We can't access non-local time servers due to firewall restrictions (and they're raelly anal about it, so they won't punch a whole to Apple's NTS). So I wanted to set up the xServe as our local time server. It's running Panther 10.3, but I'm unsure how to do it.

Mind you, I'm not wanting to set the clock on the xServe, I want the xServer it self to be an NTS so that the other Macs on the network will set their clock according the xServe's time.

Thanks,
-Rob

Go here:

And download (on the right side) the PDF "Network Services Administration Guide"

It will easily walk you through the rather painless set-up in Chapter 6.

Good Luck!
