I have a friend who is using a satellite dish (Direcway). He can chat by typing in iCHAT with no problem. He cannot use the chat feature using voice. It will try to connect and abruptly stop saying he denied or it will say he is busy in another conference. He has opened up the ports which is when we started getting those messages. Prior to that it would try to connect and just keep going with no results. What are we missing? He is on a network with a Linksys router and he is on an iMAC he just bought this past fall. He is running Panther of course.
Anyone have any ideas???? Thanks-Pat

I think spiky_dog is correct. That's why satellite connections are no good for online games - the lag is just too bad. The audio chat is probably encountering that and not able to make a connection.

Sorry man, Apple already said before that Satellite connection will not work with video chat. The upload speed for satellite connection is too slow for video chat or anything else that requires a lot of uploading speed. You're not going to find it with Satellite.

Are either of you using proxies to connect to the net?
I have this very same problem on ADSL to another ADSL (both 1.5 MBit/256/kbit). It also happens when I'm on a 100MBit LAN to that proxy-connected ADSL. Makes me suspicous of that proxy (set fot html only).

Thank you all for your replies. I have passed this information on to my friend. He is in the boondocks with his choices either being a VERY slow dialup or the satellite. He will be most disappointed for sure. Hopefully a solution will come along one day.
Have a great day!!! Pat

Well, a telco can run a T1 or ISDN to about anywhere.... decent latency, but not very wallet friendly.

ive gotten audio chat to worth my satellite, but cant get video to work...not with iChat anyway.
audio actually works pretty well once you get it to connect...which can take several attempts.
i have gotten video to work with yahoo.
i have also got audio AND video to work with vChat and SquidCam.
also, just to let you know, i have had this success with the new 6000 (stand alone) equipment. the old two way system (that relied on windows ICS) i could never get to work with iChat's AV capabilities, but the others i mentioned did work with it.
