I keep trying to download the OS X Java software update, but it keeps giving me an error message and an option to file a bug report. All of the other OS X upgrades downloaded as expected.

What gives?

Try to open Terminal and enter the following commands :

rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/"Software Update"

or delete com.apple.SoftwareUpdate and Software Update folder located in your home directory/Library/Caches from the Finder.

What's the significance of all those cache files over time? They certainly seem to be occasional trouble-makers.

Any reason I should occasionally just trash BOTH cache folders (root level and user level)? Any apps that might have seizures? ( my cache folders are only about 40MB and 100MB totals)
