I'd like to turn on Windows Sharing so that I can share some data on my Mac with a friend using Windows. First, is Windows Sharing accessable via the internet, or is it just limited to the LAN. Secondly, does Windows Sharing use a secure connection? Or does it just transmit a clear text password?

Since no one has offered any comments, I decided to experiment for myself. After several hours of trying, I couldn't connect to my Mac from a Windows machine using Windows sharing over the internet. Windows sharing over the LAN seems to work, though not very reliably.
