hi, as i would like to send a file of 2Mb size to another e mail box, how can i compress the file such that i can send, any bulit in software in Panther?

There's a compression function built-into the Finder in Panther: ctl-click (or right click if you have a 2 button mouse) on the file(s) you want to compress, and select "Create Archive of ..."

That will make a compressed .zip archive of the file(s), which is compatible with both Macs and Windows PC's.

thanks, i get it, but it seem that the compressed file (.zip) sized seem similar to the original , can I choose level of compression?

Some file formats don't compress much or are already compressed. For example, JPEG and MP3 are compressed formats. So, compressing them again with ZIP yields little improvement.
