did just erased my hard drive and did a clean install of panther, because my old install of norton firewall was messing up my internal firewall settings, and i knew of no other way to get rid of it completely.

after installing panther, i copied all my files and selected preferences back from my fw drive and got things just right the way they were. my firewall problem is fixed as well.

however, now i've got a new problem! whenever i go to preview an image in the finder's column view... the image doesn't load, and the finder just crashes. assuming it's because i wrote over something i shouldn't have in the library when i was moving my files back, i tried deleting all my finder preferences files, but that didn't help.

is there anything i can do to, besides having to do yet another clean install of panther?

thanks!

Could it be one of the preferences you copied from your backup. Try deleting what you copied and see what happends.

yeah i'm pretty sure that's what it is. however, i did try deleting all the preference files i could find associated with the finder. that didn't help.

now i don't really know which of my preference files have been copied, and which haven't. or which ones are actually associated with this problem. the only thing i could think of is to delete ALL my preferences... but don't know if that would be a good idea either...

i just tried making a new user as a test, and logged on there, and it still happens.

would this mean that if it's a bad library file, that it's one in my system or root library folder, and nothing in my user library folder?
