Spawning from this thread regarding using remote desktop to control multiple users on the same machine, wouldn't it be nice to have users share certain resources?
For instance, say I wanted all of my users to share iTunes and iChat. I'd go into the app's settings and select the resource owner as well as which users I would like to share it with.
Thus, if I were in a chat and listening to music and switched to one of the "stitched" users, it would continue to play music (bringing iTunes with me) and continue my chat (bringing iChat with me). Of course, it would be nice to have an option to bring the application with you or not, but I doubt that is possible.
Actually, would any of this be possible?

I agree - this would be great.
I just got some friends set up on a 15" pbook, and they wanted separate user accounts, but were frustrated that they only shared the 'Public" folder - they wanted more access to each others stuff, but also indivdual account customizability.
Would be nice....

Just change permissions on the folders/files they want shared using Terminal or Get Info. Or put the stuff in the Shared folder in Users.

it seems that whenever you create an additional user in system preferences, there should be options for sharing certain files like music and photos. the system should automatically configure things for you (ie. copy those files to shared folders and change permissions). the typical home user shouldn't be made to change the location of their default music folder in iTunes preferences, move all the files using the finder and then change folder permissions.

In addition to sharing permissions on files, I also meant sharing the application itself. And what I mean by that is having iTunes continue to play whatever it's playing when you switch to a user that you've "stitched" together with the user you're switching from.
