We have a rather large campus network and all of our lab computers (all running osx) are in the 'local' node. This node has about 100 computers so I would like to find a way to connect to the other lab computers automatically when I plug my iBook into the campus network. I haven't found a way to do it yet.

I have tried connecting to the server and then adding the volume to the sidebar (from the File menu) but this doesn't do anything. I suspect it is a bug that this menu item isn't grayed out. I have successfully added the 'local' node to my sidebar which at least means I don't have to traverse the entire campus network to find the 3 servers I use everyday, but I would really like to just have them in my sidebar, preferably connecting whenever I plug into the network.

Any help?

Mount the volumes and then make aliases. Put the aliases in easy-to-access locations. I have a folder in my home directory called "Servers" that I put in my Dock. Any time I want easy access to a file server, I put an alias in this folder.

This has been around since like System 7 or 8.
