one of the my audio CDs, when i insert it into the Mac (Indigo iMac running 10.2.8) doesn't show up on the desktop / or in Finder. it still shows up in iTunes and plays fine but its odd how it won't show up on the desktop. all the other CDs i've tried seem fine, its not copy-protected or anything like that (they show up on the desktop anyway )

any ideas whats causing this aberration and how to fix? although it plays ok in iTunes its handy to know theres a CD in the drive before you try and insert another one.

yeah they're checked, all other CDs (audio and data) do show up but not this one. maybe the Mac doesn't like Glen Campbell?

I would try booting from the install CD and repairing permissions.

Also try another CD to check if the problem is with Glen!

He just said the problem was with Glen.

Anyway, though, could this CD have some type of copy protection on it? That's known to cause all manner of unpleasantness with computers.

Yeah, I was going to suggest something with copy control or similar - I've had one or two audio CDs that wouldn't load on my iBook, but they were actually spat back out, rather than just not appearing. I don't really understand it though, because I tried a few other computers and had mixed results - you just have to find a PC that doesn't seem to mind it, and then rip it from there and copy back. Unfortunately in my case, the PC I got to work was at uni, and didn't have iTunes so I could only rip to WMA, which, surprisingly , wasn't of any use to me whatsoever!

Maybe it crapped out trying to get the CD track names that the Finder tries to display. Maybe try selecting the CD then going Advanced - "Get CD Track Names" within iTunes.

Try logging in as another user and see if the CD shows up (via Fast User Switching is fine), then if it does, return to your login.

Sounds whacky, but it works...
