After searching the MacNN forums and reading a variety of book reviews I was ready to order David Pogue's Missing Manual for Panther. Then came across some info on How To Do Everything With Mac OSX Panther by Kirk McElhearn. Have had a new eMac for a week and having used 8.6 with our old iMac for several years am pretty much overwhelmed but ready to jump right in. I'd like to get one book for now to start exploring and learning. Any thoughts on the one to get? Thanks in advance, Mike

I haven't read either, but David Pogue is generally a very clear and competent writer, so I would suggest his book.

I have the David Pogue book and can HIGHLY recommend it. Two years ago, I read his OSX book practically cover to cover before first installing X. And I didn't install Panther until I'd read sections of this book. In fact, I had it right in front of me as I did the install...

Get it. You won't be sorry.

I use several of Pogue's Missing Manual books. They have all been helpful and have a sense of humor to boot. Answers a lot of questions I didn't know I had! Answers them in terminolgy I can understand. Some of us take longer than others! There are also updates on the web site.

Appreciate the info and will order the Missing Manual for Panther. Am assuming it covers iPhoto, iTunes and iDVD but what about a section on Garageband? Might the McElhearn book get to that? Thanks again, Mike
