I am running OS 10.3.2 and continue to lose my view option settings (icon, sort by name). In particular the sort by name is lost practically every day. I run the carbon copy cloner software (incremental backup) nightly and was wondering if that’s the culprit or is there a flaw in the OS?

Loss of view options is a bug that seems to have plagued OS X for a long time. I am surprised after every update that this incredibly annoying bug has not yet been fixed.

Use a utility to make invisible files show up. Then go to your HD window and make sure that the DS_Store file has you listed under the ownership & permissions. That worked for me to get the view options working correctly.
