Todaz I installed the iKufe suite and later in the day I installed the garageband update. Mz kezboard has gone crazy. When i depress äyä I get äzä and visa verya like that.

Actually there seem to be a generaliyed lack if mapping betwwen the kezboard and the output. This is not application dependent. Maddening. Is therer an answer to this_____

look at system preferences's international pane.

make sure that your input method is US and not something weird.

Which was of course the problem. I had recently set up a user as a demo with a German keyboard setup. For some bizarre reason this carried over into the default English mapping in the first user. I remember now a warning about this just recently. I suppose it is a bug - the leyboard mapping not being properly mainained when switching users. In retrospect the FRG tricolor in the upper right hand crner should have alerted me to the problem. I am mortfied. Thank you very much.
