I am not sure if this should be here or in power macs, but I finally decided that I will switch my G4-DP500 from 9.1 to OSX and now am wondering about 2 things:

1) I have a 30G hard Drive and a 40G HD. The 30G HD is partitioned into 4 volumes which was supposed to be for apps, downloads, space for Photoshop to use, etc. I never used it properly. My question is "is this partitioning necessary in OSX and if so what is the optimum setup?"

2) I have 1 Gig of Ram in this setup. I see I can put in up to 1.5 if I am looking at the crucial site correctly. Is it worth it buying one or two 512 chip and popping out two 256's. (there are 4-256's in right now). I know more memory is always better but I would like to know if I'm going to see a difference in apps like photoshop, explorer, toast, and Outlook Express.

Thanks for the help.

No it was NEVER necessary, even with earlier OS's......

And there is NO optimum set-up, only one which suits YOUR needs....
If you still NEED OS 9 for classic mode, the logical uses for that 30gb drive would be 3-4GB for 9,and divide the rest between PS scratch disk and VM swap space, if you are so inclined.......and keep the 40gb for OS X

As for the ram, yes more is always better, for OS X especially. Apps like Photoshop & Toast will always run better with more, the other apps you listed wont show any difference. OS 9 can only use 1gb anyway

Whether or not it is worth it, really depends on your wallet
Signatures are ugly. Bitchy women are ugly......YOU do the math :)
