a friend of mine has 4 questions that I couldnt answer. I sold my mac a year ago,Im rusty.
1. How would we transfer stickies thats on OS9.2 over to 10.2.3.

2. When he goes to shut down in 10.2.3, a window pops up and asks if you're sure you want to shut down. How would we get rid of this window. He just wants to shut down without being asked if he's sure.

3. When he boots up his powerbook, hard drive icon move to a different spot every time. How do we make it stay in one place? We tried finder preferences with no luck.

4. We adjusted the finder (I think) window to the perfect size. Tried to set it so that the next time he opens it it will stay the same size. How do we make it stay the size of our liking.

Any help will be appreciated.

1: copy and paste (or you can save them as text files)
2: why in the world would you want to get rid of that? If you accidentally hit the power button on the keyboard, or accidentally select the wrong menu item... Anyway... the only way is to bypass the GUI. in the terminal, type "sudo shutdown -h now" and type in the admin password.
3: The hard drive icon should show up in the upper-right-hand corner. This is where the drive you booted from goes. Always. Always has. You can't turn it into Windows and put it on the left.
4: Tell the Finder to always open folders in new windows. Window size is usually ignored otherwise.

Hold Option while selecting the command from the menu

Open a new window, adjust it how you want, and immediately close it. If you browse to somewhere else, you'll lose the settings. Next time you open a new window, it will be how you set it.

Do you really need to shutdown? Sleep lasts for a awful long time, and probably uses less power than starting up, anyway.

Most people shutdown so rarely that the dialogue doesn't bother them.
