Ugh. My sister's VAIO laptop has like 6 different virii and a shitload of spyware crap... and she wants ME to fix it! grrr... but I'm a nice bro and I say sure, no problem.
So I plug the laptop into my router (knowing full well that Macs are immune to windows virii, of course) and set up Windows sharing to copy over all the stuff she wants saved. What I didn't know is that the network port on the VAIO is borked and keeps dropping connections. In the middle of transferring a gig of data the connection drops and I get to play with a beachball. I let it go for awhile thinking it will time out, but I give up and force quit the finder. Apparantly not a good idea because the finder goes away but never comes back.
Hard reset.
After I get the system back I decided to try something different. I enable WinXP file sharing for the drives on the laptop and connect from Panther to the laptop. I attempt another transfer and it succeeds. Then I proceed to wipe the VAIO clean. Back on OS X there are some dialog boxes, something to the effect that the shares have disappeared... makes sense since I had rebooted the laptop. Sometime later I'm wondering why iTunes stopped playing music. I find a nice friendly message saying I must reboot my computer.
grrr. Just venting.

Boy, I hope so. I've had about enough of this networking trouble.

The other thing you can try (for next time) is booting Windows into safe mode.

My iTunes library is on my PC downstairs and it is always mounted on my Mac so I can hear my music. Every time XP crashes (a few times a day even though it's a fresh install) my music stops and sometimes the whole Finder stalls. It's so annoying.

I hope so I don't really want to shell out 119 dollars for DAVE to share over my windows Network here in my office.
