Anyone have an idea? A new problem has surfaced with my 6-month old PB.

About a week ago I returned home, woke up my PB, and was surprised to find it at its login screen. I'm running 10.3.2. I thought I might have forgot that I logged out.

But a couple of days later, the same thing. It was at its logout screen when I came home. So I looked at the log files. It looked like it just decided to log out. No reboot occured, no crash that I could see.

Another day later, same thing. Again the log files showed about the same thing. This has been happening about every other day now for a week.

I've never actually been present to witness the logout occuring.

There always seems to be about an hour gap in the log before the logout sequence starts (but this isn't exactly an hour, sometimes 50 minutes, sometimes 70 minutes).

... log data before just before the next block of times

Feb 26 14:10:53 bitjumper configd[120]: executing /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Kicker.bundle/Contents/Resources/set-hostname
Feb 26 14:10:53 bitjumper lookupd[780]: lookupd (version 324) starting - Thu Feb 26 14:10:53 2004
Feb 26 14:10:53 bitjumper set-hostname[793]: setting hostname to bitjumper.local
Feb 26 22:12:00 bitjumper webdavd[554]: socket_read_line: recv() MSG_PEEK: Operation timed out

... log data with what appears to be a succession of steps to logout (I wasn't home during this time - so it wasn't anything I could have done):

Feb 26 15:58:53 bitjumper kernel: AirPort: Link DOWN
Feb 26 15:58:56 bitjumper kernel: AirPort: Link UP: "bitjumper" - 000c41dc5ce9 - chan 6
Feb 26 23:59:01 bitjumper webdavd[554]: /Volumes/bitjumper unmounted
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper kernel: IOHIDSystem: doKickEventConsumer msg_send returned 268435459
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper kernel: IOHIDSystem: doKickEventConsumer msg_send returned 268435459
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper /Library/StartupItems/SideTrack/sidetrackd: sidetrackd: User login or logout.
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper automount[400]: logout notification received.
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper automount[400]: requesting logout processing.
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper automount[396]: logout notification received.
Feb 26 15:59:03 bitjumper automount[396]: requesting logout processing.

Some notes:
1. "bitjumper" is the name of my .Mac account and also the name of the computer.
2. It seems the Link DOWN starts the sequence to logging out. When I quickly scan through the log files, the only other time I see Link DOWN is when the system sleeps. So there appears an anomoly here.

Any thoughts how I can correct this?

Erik

In the Security preference pain, there's an option to log out after X minutes of inactivity. Has that setting been turned on somehow?

Oh my. Do I feel embarrased now. And I had looked all over for such a setting and didn't know if Mac OS had it. It was set!!

Thanks! I learned something new - even if it is a mystery how it got set.
