well basically aol doesnt support high speed access such as dsl, so i have to log in using mac ppoe thing which works fine except i dont get the speed im supposed to. The tutorial tells me to open a terminal and open some network file and add some line which changes the mtu to 1400.
well my question is how do i change my mtu to 1400, i dont understand what this other tutorial is asking me to do. thanks in advance

Do you have a link to this tutorial? We can help explain it, but we need to know what it's telling you to do.

In Panther, it allows you to set the MTU manually in the System Preference.

Network->Built-in Ethernet->Ethernet tab->Configure: Manual (Advanced).

I don't see why you have to go to all that trouble just to use AOL with OS X and DSL. If you have a working connection to the Internet (email and web surfing working w/o AOL), then just specify a "bring your own access" connection in the AOL client. It's been a while since I used AOL but there was a way to just connect using your existing Internet provider.

I've just installed the AOL for OS X client and you can specify a TCP connection using DSL.

Where did you get this need to run commands in the Terminal?

Something is awry here.
