I was attempting to save a bookmark and got the safari unexpectedly quit box. Safari closed and when I restarted Safari a box opened that stated that there was an error saving bookmarks. Now Safari won't save bookmarks anywhere. I reinstalled safari and still have the same problem. I figured a file got corrupted and that I would just reinstall Panther. When I try this installer tells me that I can't intall panther because harddrive contains newer version than the original panther cd's. Anyone know how I can fix the bookmark problem and/or reinstall panther to maybe fix the corrupted files and get safari going again without losing all my data. P.S. I even tried doing a restore of my backup files for safari from my .Mac account, but it didn't work either. Please Help. Oh almost forgot its on a 1.8 G5 w/ 1.5 Gb of Ram.

Well I used the finder and did a search for safari. I also did this with my iBook and all the files are the same between the two computers. Still don't know how to fix.
Anyone know how to do the reinstall of panther to maybe fix the corrupted files.

There is no need to reinstall the OS for such a basic problem. To remove any corrupted files that Safari uses, simply select Reset Safari... from the Safari menu in Safari. This will reset Safari to just like it was the first time you launched.
But if you really want to reinstall the whole OS, you'll need to select Archive and Install or Erase and Install from the Options button when you get to the screen that allows you to select a drive to install onto.

I tried the easy reset in safari. Doesn't fix the problem. I still get the error box that says Problem saving the bookmark when I try to save any bookmark anywhere..ie. bar or regular.
The problem with reinstalling os is that the readme file states that you should select the options box if you want to archive install. In my case the options button of panther installer doesn't allow it to be selected. And only says that I can't install as the HD is a newer version than the panther CD. This is a tricky problem. There has got to be a way to fix easily without wiping entire 160Gb drive.

did you do what ntsc suggested?
delete that folder and see what happens.
you should also try deleting safari's preference file.
also, it never hurts to repair permissions using disk utility.
