Anyone here use Webmin to configure their servers? I wanna give it a try but I'm not sure if it can do what I need. Basically I want full GUI controls for a firewall and ROUTER (including port mappings). I'm really hoping that this program can do that. Thats really all I need, I have mail and web covered. And I don't wanna just jump in and start messing around because I don't wanna harm what I already have working.

Yup, on my FreeBSD server.

I do control the backup (a cron job), dhcpd and bind. It has modules for all kinds of stuff.

For routing and firewall stuff, it's pretty much OS dependent. OS X, Darwin and FreeBSD use ipfw whereas OpenBSD uses another. Linux also uses another firewall, etc.

is that router stuff built in, or do you need a module? Can you show me some screen shots of its controls?

Sorry, the server is in another country and my parents didn't have broadband by the time I have left. What OS do you use?

BTW: Webmin is fairly easy to use. You still need to have a clue of what you are doing.

I haven't used Magnum yet, so I don't know about the internals.
But doesn't Apple include you remote admin tools?

Anyway: it works with OS X server according to its pages. Also: because FreeBSD is among the three best supported OSes, it is fair to assume that firewall and routing (as they are basic things of a server) should work fine.

Just try it.

OS X Server DOES have its own GUI tools, but no routing capabilities, and the firewall is screwey, every time i try to configure it, things end up totally messed up. I installed it, but I can't find any routing/firewall stuff anywhere. I did find Cron stuff though, that will be useful!

Webmin works like a champ on OS X. Just download the installer, and connect to port 10000 in a webbrowser. No problems. Now, not everything will work if the binaries aren't installed. f.x Don't use webmin to control mysql or cvs in osx client if you haven't installed the binaries yourself.

good luck
