I recently found that, after updating to Panther, and copying my user/ Mail /Folder over, that I am unable to "rebuild" mailboxes. That function is greyed out. I am in an active mailbox so that is not the problem. I checked other accounts that I also copied over and it's the same thing. However,in newly created accounts, I am able to rebuild.
Any way to solve this problem?

Did you use the Import function in Mail.app to move your emails from Jaguar to Panther? I also upgraded from Jaguar, and can rebuild in Panther. But I didn't use the import function.
Instead, I just backed-up all of my Home/Library folders from Jaguar. Installed Panther and copied the Mail folder back into Home/Libary as it was before (sorry at work and can't remember if Mail has it's own folder in your Home Library or if it's stored in the Application Support folder or another such folder, maybe someone else can chime in? ...it's in the folder where all your "boxes" are stored and other Mail.app data).
Then, open Mail app and everything should be there, updated and ready to use in Panther, should also be able to rebuild your "boxes" and it runs perfectly for me.

Hello echosphere,
I did exactly what you did. Copied my whole User/Mail folder in Jaguar and dragged it over into Panther once installed. Everything else has worked perfectly except the rebuild function is greyed out.

Like I said at the beginning of the post I am in an active mailbox. I cannot rebuild the In or Sent Mail mailboxes. I think it has something to do with the way I updated by just dragging over my saved user/mail folder from Jaguar into Panther. I probably should have imported instead. I think that's what Apple suggests.
