What I did...I placed the Folder containing Windows Media Player 7 in the trash, prior to downloading the new version 9. When I emptied the Trash to delete WMP7, I was not allowed to delete the WMP app itself, although everything else was deleted. Also, the icon of the app has changed from the blue WMP icon, to an OSX "Application" icon - has the letter "A" made from a pencil, paintbrush, and ruler. Using GetInfo, I checked the permission setting and I set all 3 options to read/write access. I've also repaired permissions and restarted the computer. Still, I'm not allowed to delete it.
There is one more oddity. When I empty the trash, I am presented with a window that says "The operation cannot be completed because......" filename" is locked. The oddity is that there are several files: wmphelp.htm, WMPIcon.gif, windowshade.gif, whatsnew.htm, volume.gif, viewinginfo.htm, upgradingwmp.htm, .... There are more, I don't know how many more. Yet, in the trash, there is only ONE file: Windows Media Player.app. When I use "find" and search "everywhere" for the files I am not allowed to delete (e.g. wmphelp.htm), they do not exist.
Any help is greatly appreciated. This isn't a big deal, it's more like an annoying hang nail, bugging me to no end and occupying way too much of my time.
Many thanks again.
