I'm haveing the same issue as posted here

with the exception that my 17" powerbook can't boot from OS 9 - so -
someone please help...

I've spent 4 hours trying to hose this freaking file

If they won't go when you hold down option while emptying the trash and if you suspect it's these immutable flags, check with ls -ldo if any of these are set, it is very unlikely that any of these are set, but you can change them if you boot in single-user mode.

Otherwise any delete apps can't do much more than a sudo rm-r what you tried.

I had a friend who had a folder with some dreamweaver files that wouldn't delete. For over two years those little suckers sat in his trash with the icon bulging! Then one day he emptied the trash and they just went. We had a few beer just to celibrate!! He said he felt like a huge weight had lifted. (mad). :-)
