i'm kinda ashamed to say this since i'm a long time Mac and general computer user, but I cannot figure out how to duplicate a CD in Mac OS X. I know there's "Disk Utility" that can create an image and then I can burn from there. That seems so un-user friendly, so un-Apple so to say. Am I missing anything here? I've looked in Mac Help menu, did a little googling, and have spent the last 2 hours trying to figure it out. I'm on an iBook with Mac OS 10.3 with a DVD/CD-RW drive. any help?

basically this is what i want to do. i have a Data CD that I want to duplicate. what is the easiest way to duplicate the CD under Mac OS X? thanks guys!

Make a disc image, burn said image. It's not that hard.

Yes you can, if you pay up for Toast or some specialized cd burning utility.

Anyway, I find the cd burning capabilities of OSX to be pretty good, compared to that of winXP. Be happy! Still, considering that OSX can make and burn disc images, it should be pretty easy to add a home made script, or for Apple programmers, to do some automation of the process with a simple dialog box. Would be a nice and usefull extension to the burning capabilities of the OS.

Did a quick search over at Mac OS X Hints and came up with this hint detailing how to make an exact duplicate from the command line.

Never tried myself, but let us know how you get on.

I, for one, agree that it "should" be that simple on Mac OS X. Unfortunately, as others have illustrated, it's not. Perhaps Apple is hedging its bets against copyright infringement issues?
