so I was working on a website for a friend, and needed an easy way to view the pages I created. I could have ftp'ed the files to my windows server at home, but that would be extra steps. So I decided to finally turn on web sharing on my ibook..... and..... it just worked. then I decided to install php... and it was already installed.
cheers apple, u've just gotten another person to cross over to the Apple side. Now to see about getting Steve to send me a G4 tower to replace my 2k server at home.....

But... you already have a iBook, so... I guess it means you were already a Mac convert... Hmmm... Well, either way, welcome to the light side.

Yeah, it was pretty much the same thing for me. I bought an ibook just because they're so small and handy - and cheap!
It took two days to get used to mac os x till i tried some "advanced" stuff that I used on my doze-machines. I spent hours on trying to find a basic FTP server for mac os x just to find out that there's one built in anyway - and that's just one example of many.
Actually, I love my iBook so much that I'm running it as a desktop-pc w/ a second monitor and the spanning hack, mouse and keyboard - rather than simply using my PC that's under the desktop. G5 will be on the way 'soon as the updated ones are out.

True to that, this 17" Rev.A Powerbook G4 is my first Mac as well. And I'm planning on buying a Powerbook G5 around the end of Oct. as my second Mac. So I'm hoping to pick up a dual 3.0+ Ghz PowerMac G5 with a 23inch (updated I hope) Apple displays with it.

They taketh AND giveth time away...
I couldn't imagine writing a dissertation...ON PAPER using a TYPEWRITER. Holy sh$T.
And then there's things like data analysis and visualization...can you say GRAPH PAPER?
Anyway...to the original poster...yes, Macs just work. OS X gets out of your way and gives you almost everything you need without the hassle or insecurity.

I'm not sure when I officially switched.
But I now refuse to help people with some Windows problems. We take a lot for granted with out OS. Windows people don't. they are usually happy when it boots up and plays music.

I work with a ton of professors... they laugh at how east computers are... Many of them paid a per page rate for others to type their dissertations. And many of the swear by overhead projectors.

Sounds like you've officially switched.

I have given up with many people... They know I'm a Mac user, so they usually go in to "I won't believe anything he says... because he is trying to sell me a Mac"
I got this today: Show me how to make a PDF from a web page.
Ummm, gee, ummm, well, I have a Mac and I go to print and save as PDF...
So they MADE me sit there and try to figure it out... What a joke. I'm not saying OS X is all that superior (well, it is, but you know what I'm saying) It just has some cool features.

It means you posted to the thread. If it has a dot in it, it means that there have been more posts since the last time you checked.
