Hello,

I'd just got a movie in AVI-format from a friend (he runs Windows XP).
When I try to play the movie in VLC I get this wierd failmessage.

What should I do to watch my movie?

I think that's a Matroska file, and you'll need to use MPlayerOSX.

Yeah I had this problem before too and Mplayer played it just fine. I know it sucks to have Quicktime, VLC and Mplayer, but MPlayer handles more things than either QT or VLC.

This is off topic, but I wish someone could tell me why I can't watch QT video off Apple's site. I can't see QT streams, nor can I watch regular QT movies embedded in Apple's pages. The strange thing is, other regular QT movies display fine. I can view movie trailers Apple links to, but I cannot view the iPod endowed 1984. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, fully upgraded 10.3.2. . . When I try to view an Apple progressive download QT (like iPod 1984) all I see is a white frame.

In QuickTime Preferences (System prefs) under the Connection tab click Transport set up, is it set to HTTP port 80? I had to manually make it this to make streams work.

Thank you for the tip, ryju; unfortunately I already tried it but it made no difference. I've also punched the proper holes in my router's firewall, but no dice. Strange, eh?
