Can't pinpoint when it happened (now on 10.3.2) but every few days my Finder file icons get corrupted, displaying rubbish. I delete the cache, log back in, and everything is ok. Since this is happening pretty often now any solution to stopping it? What's up?
Thanks.

Repair permissions? Diskwarrior? Those are always my first two troubleshooting tools.

it happens to me too. Usually force restarting the Finder is enough to fix it. But it always returns pretty quickly

I get this a way too much... I even had the little arrows in column view turn to Folder icons before. Hopefully this will be addressed in 10.3.3(hopefully my weird desktop icon text shadows will be corrected too)...

I wonder what the commonality here is? I haven't seen this on the 10+ OS X computers I admin. Is it from themes, haxies or other software installed that is causing this? Do you have a test account that you can try it with, and does it occur there ?

I don't use any of that ****...

I THINK it may be a problem with Radeon 9800 cards in the G5s?

i have heard of this happening long before G5s were available. If you are referring to the desktop shadow bug. I cannot see how it would affect the icons however.

its not the G5's I have the problem on my radeon 9000 in my MDD (10.3.2).

I have the shadow issue daily but not on every folder.

I had the icon changes daily for a while gave up trying to fix them and then one day they just went back to normal. Now about two days ago I saw the first switched icon in about a month and then I saw another and another. I have no idea what's causing them but at least this time it has only been about 5 icons whereas last time it was taking over everything.

I have this on my dual 1.25 PowerMac, ever since I installed Panther. I've heard it discussed before, sounds like a "Panther thing." Hope they get around to fixing it in one of these upgrades, preferably after the "networking thing."

I dunno about it being related to Panther, as I recall several that had the bug were hoping Panther would fix it.

I never had this problem on anything below Panther. I installed Panther on my old G4 400 and it started on there too..

it only started after installing 10.3 for me too. I have a dual 1 ghz G4 quicksilver tower, Radeon 7500 OEM, Radeon 7000 retail, Televio TV capture card, 1 GB RAM and no Haxies or themes of any kind (unless you count the system graphite theme, heh). Maybe we can narrow it down, but I think it's going to be hard since it's such a common bug

Thanks for all the feedback... I never had the problem before Panther and others have echoes this. I have a stock QS 800 with a Radeon card. The latest configuration.

It's not a permanent fix, but for those who want to remove the corrupt icons (at least until they show up again), simply use:

sudo rm -Rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore

And log out/back in. I was just hoping to put an end to it once and for all...

I have 10.3.3 build 7F40 and don't have the problem, but I never have had it.

Panther Cache Cleaner. Clean out everything, boot to the DiskWarrior CD and check the drive. Fix (if necessary) and reboot. Worked for me the one time I had this issue (on a 1GHz TiBook).

People who have the icon problem, do you also have the text shadow problem too?

10.3.3 has brought another related problem. My network icon (the one alongside the drives) disappears in the Finder. Removing the cache solves it. But it's happened 4 times today. So far no repeat of corrupt icons, but that happened 1-2 a week only...
