Hi all,
I'm having a bit of a problem right now. I'm running Panther Server on an iMac and I'm having a problem with sharing a Canon i950 connected to the iMac via USB. My PC can see the printer, but the jobs disappear when I try to print using Samba. I haven't even tried printing from my G5 yet. USB printer sharing seems to be so flaky. I'd like to know if this definitively works or not, or if I should try setting up a Windows 2003 Server machine and use that for my home server instead of Panther Server. Panther Server's also giving me trouble with WebDAV (but that's another thread).

I used to have pretty good luck with wireless printer sharing.

Now, it seems with Panther it is quite spotty.

I have two printers hooked up to my Dad's eMac, and HP and an Epson. Both always work fine with his computer. His eMac is set to Printer Sharing enabled. Frequently, my Powerbook does not see either of his printers.

I have tried everything. There does not seem to be a solution that works consistently.

For me, sometimes it works well, sometimes it just doesn't work.

Things that help:

Having the 'host' computer and printer turned on for at least 5 minutes before you want to print.

Oh wait. That's it. The rest seems to be trial and error

I have never had a problem sharing my printer at all.

Cube 500, iMac 17" 1.2, QS 800, and Pismo 500 all print just fine over 802.3 or 802.11b.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

Well, restarting both Macs has fixed the problem, but I think that is a crappy solution.
