Ok, so I select my 20 songs that I have right now on my 400 celeron pc and click convert to aac. Simple, right? Nope. 3-6 minutes per song. I have about 5GB of music besides this. Any freeware or free shareware you know about that is faster than iTunes???

First of all 400 megahertz? Second of all Celeron? The sky is not the limit with that combination... I don't think there's much you can do, man.

I just did a simple google search for "Winamp aac" and found a few sites saying that Winamp 5.0 or so can do AAC encoding/decoding, check it out. You'll most likely need some kind of plugin.

Also, why the hell waste so much time on making things sound *worse* (AND making them less device-compatible than mp3)?????

If you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, I suggest you do a forum search, because the question of why it's a stupid, stupid waste of time to convert from mp3 to aac (not talking about re-encoding from the original CD) has been covered about a half-dozen times here.
