I'm trying to enable FileVault on my Mac. My home directory is 27gb, and I've got 40gb free, so I don't think I'm running out of disk space. I go to the Security Preference Pane, enable FileVault, and let my Mac run for a few hours, creating the encrypted image. After is encrypts the image, it tries to verify it, and gives me an error, telling me that it failed verification, and that it couldn't complete the FileVault enabling. Any ideas?
I've already tried repairing permissions, but that didn't work.

I put my 25GB Music folder in the /Users/Shared directory, and retried encrypting my directory, which was now 2GB. It worked. I'm now copying my Music folder back into my home directory, which is taking a long time, but it looks like everything is working fine now.

I have about 25-30 GB available on my 120 GB harddisk.
Filevault says it needs more space, so now it cannot be enabled
Since there was several bad news about it in the beginning, I never really cared about it, and never really digged for a solution.

I used filevault for a while and decided that for me, the slight risk of someone absconding with my personal info was a better bet than dealing with the slowdown of filevault, file sharing headaches and the very real possibliity that a file corruption could make the data go "poof". Now I just keep really sesitive stuff like my plans for world domination and my collection of 3D robot porn on an encrypted disk image.
FileVault reminds me of Filson's "double-tin" pants, which are made of 2 layers of thick, stiff oiled canvas. As you can imagine, if you don't need to wear pants like that, you never would. However, if you need them, you won't want to wear anyting else.
