I've got a QuickSilver 2002 933mhz with 896 MB RAM running Panther 10.3.3, however the problem exitsted in 10.3.2 as well.

When I put CD into the Superdrive, it spins up and then nothing. I can use Disk utility to manually click the mount point, but it will not show up in the Finder Tray, only under JDS's Computer. Sometimes a CD will show if it booted up with one in the drive. A Blank CDR will show up only if you leave the finder request to "Untitled CD" any atempt to change the name leads to the same problem. Doesn't matter if it is burned or a commercial CD. Toast will still see the CDs even when the finder doesn't.

Ran 10.2.8 off a partition and everything works fine there. In panther I trashed my user finder prefs. Did not help.

Repaired permissions on my 10.3 partition and returns a repair of filesystems/cd9660.fs/cd9660.util. Tried to replace this from Jaguar (not a good idea). Replaced with a backup but now my Firewire drive won't mount except thru Disk utility. A little research shows this was changed in a security update, but no actual word on what it does.

I'm trying hard not to do a Complete reinstall of Panther. Anyone had similar problems or suggestions?

Thanks.
jon
