The keychain status menu doesn't appear in the menubar after 10.3.3 and turning it on and off in the keychain program doesn't do anything. Any ideas on how to get it back?

Works fine here...

Fix permissions and see if that helps you...

Did you have it turned on before the update?

Fixing permissions doesn't do anything for me...

Yes.

Try killing the "SystemUIServer" and see if it magically comes back after toggling on/off...

No dice... Also weird. Keychain access shows "Show status in menu bar" but selecting it doesn't toggle or do anything anymore...

Apple changed the way Keychain.menu loads under 10.3.3. I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say they're following their own rules again .

I'd try trashing your com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file (in Preferences) and then "killall SystemUIServer". That will reset your menu extras an start you with a clean slate.

Also, if you are using one of the third party MenuExtra enablers (MenuCracker or Unsanity's MEE) try removing it. I know for certain that MenuCracker 1.3 is compatible with 10.3.3 but if you have an old version laying around it could be a problem. I'm not sure abour MEE under 10.3.3.

I don't know if its the only updated NSMenuExtra, I haven't bothered to check. I just know that Keychain.menu no longer needs Enable.menu, which is a good thing, trust me.

Thanks Alex...I appreciate the information...

Any plans for a MenuMeters update in the future? I love that little jewel...

MM 1.2 is code complete but probably won't be public for a while. It needs a new MenuCracker and has to survive the private beta first.

That said, don't expect anything radical in the next release. MM is a mature product now (hey, it did everything I wanted around 0.6 ) and its hard to justify spending a lot of time adding obscure features. There have been lots of good suggestions over the last few months, but with other projects on my plate (and a hunt for a new job) the rule of thumb has to be that a feature that takes more than a few hours to add has to have widespread demand to be worthwhile.

Hmmm. very interesting.

I got rid of the system ui plist and killed the process and and my ichat icon disappeared. (airport and volume went away and re-appeared without my doing anything). But starting ichat and re-selecting the pref put the ichat icon/menu back in place. But still no dice on the keychain menu... and in the program itself the menu item does not toggle.

I had Unsanity's MEE (and menu meters) installed some time ago, but I find no trace of them now...

---------
*****Update: I simply replaced the keychain app with one from another installation and the problem went away.
